Bald Range cause rumour: what official sources confirm so far
Updated August 9, 2026 · Independent source-context post
Why BCFires is not naming the person: a Facebook post circulating in BetterBC names an individual and alleges that person started the Bald Range wildfire with firecrackers. In this check, BCFires did not find an official RCMP, BC Wildfire Service, local-government or court source confirming that allegation. We are not republishing the name or treating the claim as fact.
Current-instructions warning: social posts are not official emergency instructions. Use BC Wildfire Service, EmergencyInfoBC, DriveBC and local/regional emergency pages for current orders, alerts and road information.
What the Facebook post claims
The BetterBC repost points to a “The REAL Summerland” post that names a person and alleges that the person started the Bald Range fire with firecrackers. The post also urges readers to search the person’s name.
That is a serious allegation. BCFires is treating it as a social-media allegation only unless and until official investigators, police or courts confirm it publicly.
