Campfire bans and human-caused fires
A campfire that was safe in May can be reckless in August. Fire bans are not symbolic; they respond to fuel dryness, weather, firefighting capacity and risk.
Before lighting anything, check the official BC fire bans page. If a ban is active, do not improvise around it. If fires are permitted, keep the fire small, attended and fully extinguished.
Common preventable causes
- Abandoned campfires.
- Hot exhaust in dry grass.
- Chainsaw or equipment sparks.
- Backyard burning during wind.
- Improper disposal of ashes or cigarettes.
