Official-source wildfire access update · Aug. 29, 2026
Bald Range wildfire area restriction starts Aug. 29: what BCWS says — and what it does not say
BC Wildfire Service says an Area Restriction Order near the Bald Range wildfire (K51490), about 15 kilometres west of Summerland, takes effect at noon Pacific time on Aug. 29, 2026. The practical point: this is an official access/safety restriction around a suppression area, not a new evacuation order or cause finding.
Official BCWS area restriction. Not an evacuation order, road detour, fire-boundary status summary, return-home clearance or cause finding.
If life or property is at immediate risk, call 911. To report a wildfire, call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a cellphone.
What BCWS says changed
The Aug. 28 BCWS bulletin says the order starts at 12:00 noon PDT on Aug. 29 and remains in force until noon Sept. 12, 2026, or until rescinded earlier. BCWS says it is being used to protect public and responder safety and to limit public interference where fire suppression activities are taking place.
The bulletin lists exceptions for official wildfire work, suppression support, access to a principal residence or secondary/recreational property that is not under an evacuation order, use of a highway, use of Princeton-Summerland Road, and specified agricultural/livestock activities. Readers should open the official BCWS notice and attached map before relying on any boundary description.

What this does not prove
- This is not an evacuation order or alert. EmergencyInfoBC and local/First Nation pages are the sources to check for evacuation instructions.
- This is not a road detour or travel clearance. DriveBC rows can change by corridor and time.
- This is not a fire-cause, arson or responsibility finding. BCFires is not naming or implying any cause from this access order.
- This is not an all-clear for open fires, access or recreation elsewhere. Fire bans, local restrictions and area restrictions can change separately.
