Hardy Mountain probe: three Grand Forks wildfires in five hours, and why officials say “suspicious” is not a suspect list
A Surrey Facebook page amplified a real Grand Forks fire story: three separate Hardy Mountain wildfires were reported between Friday night and early Saturday, and firefighters say the number, proximity and timing made the circumstances suspicious. The safe takeaway is narrow: send evidence to investigators, check official fire information, and do not turn a suspicious-fire label into online accusations against named people or groups.

What happened

Why it is a feature, not just a post
Hardy Mountain already had earlier 2026 fire-history context, including a March Hardy Mountain Road fire that triggered tactical evacuation and destroyed a small barn. The August sequence is different because three fires appeared close together in time and place. That combination explains the “suspicious” label while leaving cause and responsibility to investigators.
Public request
Anyone in the area at the time who saw unusual activity, people or vehicles, or who has security or dash-camera footage, should contact Grand Forks RCMP. For active smoke/fire reports or irresponsible behaviour that could start a wildfire, B.C. says to call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 from a cell phone; call 911 if life or property is at immediate risk.
