      "text": "WILLIAMS LAKE – Effective at 12:00 p.m. (noon) PDT on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be permitted throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre and Tsilhqot’in (Xeni Gwet’in) Declared Title Area. Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited until 12:00 p.m. (noon) on October 31, 2026 along with the following activities: Air curtain burners Carbonizers Binary exploding targets Burn Barrels or Burn Cages Controlled air incinerators Fireworks, as define in the Fireworks Act of B.C. A campfire is defined as: Any fire no larger than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide (a fire larger than this is considered a Category 2 fire) Used by any person for recreational purposes or by a First Nation for a ceremonial purpose Other activities which were previously included in the category 1 campfire prohibition will now be permitted in the Cariboo Fire Centre: The use of sky lanterns The use of wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building As the campfire prohibition is being lifted, we ask the public to remain vigilant and follow all regulations when enjoying campfires. If you are in a municipality, be sure to check if local prohibitions are in place. BC Parks follows BC Wildfire Service prohibitions. Penalties Anyone found in contravention of an open fire prohibition may be issued a ticket for $1,150, required to pay an administrative penalty of $10,000, or, if convicted in court, fined up to $100,000 and/or sentenced for up to one year in jail. If your fire causes or contributes to a wildfire, you may be fined up to $1 million and/or sentenced to up to 3 years in jail, as well as be responsible for all firefighting and associated costs. Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre. As the campfire prohibition is being lifted, we ask the public to remain vigilant and follow all regulations when enjoying campfires. In addition, this rescindment applies to the following types of land within municipal boundaries: parks, conservancies and recreation areas (Park Act); recreation sites, recreation trails, interpretive forest sites and trail-based recreation areas (Forest and Range Practices Act); ecological reserves (Ecological Reserve Act); wildlife management areas (Wildlife Act); and private managed forest land (Private Managed Forest Land Act).       "text": "CASTLEGAR – The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Inonoaklin Creek wildfire (N51198) in the Inonoaklin Creek area. This wildfire is estimated to be 1,511 hectares and is located approximately 17km northwest of Needles. Effective immediately, the area restriction issued for the Inonoaklin Creek area is rescinded . Fire behaviour and activity for the Inonoaklin Creek wildfire (N51198) has decreased and firefighting personnel no longer need to restrict public access to the area. Before entering any area affected by a wildfire, people should be aware that significant safety hazards may be present. Fire-damaged trees may be unstable and could fall down. Ash pits can be hard to detect and can remain hot long after the flames have died down. The BC Wildfire Service reminds members of the public that the Inonoaklin Creek wildfire (N51198) is an active worksite, and they should always exercise caution while travelling in the area. Although the area restriction has been rescinded, officials still have the authority under the Wildfire Act and its regulations to order anyone to leave the area. Smoke may still be seen within the fire’s perimeter over the coming weeks. Smoke appearing from well within the fire perimeter and burned material is common. However, smoke that rises from green, unburned fuel or from outside a fire’s perimeter should be reported immediately. Road closures and area restrictions are subject to change depending on fire activity.
